Family Worship

Family worship is a central part of our discipleship strategy at Basswood Church. We believe parents are primarily responsible for their children's spiritual growth, making the home a crucial place where God's Word is read, His name is honored, and the gospel is lived out daily. Family worship isn't just a nice addition to church life—it's foundational to raising children who know and love Christ.

While many resources exist to help families begin, we've found that simplicity works best. Following biblical wisdom, we encourage fathers to lead their families in at least three essential practices:

Read

Read the Bible to your family. Whether you follow a one-year reading plan, take a Proverb a day, or work through a particular book, make God's Word the centerpiece of your family life. Start today reading Scripture with whoever God has placed in your home.

Pray

Commit to God in prayer the things you've read together. While you might include regular prayers for family and friends, focus especially on what you've heard from Scripture. Fathers should frequently lead, but can also encourage other family members to participate.

Sing

Incorporate music into your family worship, whether through instruments if you have musicians in the home, singing together without accompaniment, or using recorded music to sing along. However you do it, God deserves the praises of everyone in your household.

These three practices—reading, praying, and singing—provide a solid foundation. As families grow in this habit and mature, they can add elements like Scripture memorization, catechism, and theological reading for God's glory in the home.
